In his radio broadcast yesterday Rush Limbaugh announced that this is the FIRST TIME he has been ashamed of America. What this says to the PPOV is that Rush did not have a problem with any of the following: 1) Slavery, 2) The Slaughter of Native Americans/The Trail of Tears, 3) Hiroshima, 4) Nagasaki, 5) Vietnam, 6) The House of Un-American Activities, 7) COINTELPRO, 8) Jim Crow, (9) The Assassinations of President Kennedy, Dr. Martin Luther King, Bobby Kennedy, and Malcolm X, and finally (10) The continued assault on Political Prisoners. Shouldn't we be ashamed of Rush?

Should the 2013 Academy Awards be Postponed?
Oscar-nominated film 'War Witch' about a child-soldier played by Rachel Mwanza from the Democratic Republic of the Congo has a dilema. The star of the movie who has been nominated has not been given a US Visa to attend the Oscars. The Peoples Point of View needs you to spread the word. Let's get this young star into the US for the show, or postpone the Oscars until she is here!!!

United Nations Fights Against "Food Discrimination"
European supermarkets have been rejecting quality produce from Kenya simply because of a variety of desired shapes and sizes, which are arbitray at best. To combat this discrimination over 500 diplomats from the United Nations were treated to a feast using the so-called bad produce from Kenya. Each member enjoyed a delectable meal that was fresh and healthy. Europeans should be ashamed!!!

Pistorius thought Steenkamp was an Intruder?
If Pistorius is exonerated for killing Reeva Steenkamp because he thought she was an intruder, wouldn't that mean we would be 'taking his word for it'?

Did Steven Spielberg's 'The Color Purple' Send Black Men to Prison?
According to statistical data the number of black men convicted of a crime doubled between 1982 and 1985! It is obvious when one reads the book vs. the movie the latter will leave you more aware of white supremacy/oppression and the former more confused about the oppression of Black Men! This was Spielberg's desire! The question that arrises is: Just how much damage did Spielberg's 'The Color Purple do to Black Men?

TO HELL WITH PSYCHATRIC FACILITIES!!!
28-year-old Fedarius Shine killed his grandmother, aunt, and daughter in Detroit just before checking himself into a psychiatric facility. Is this a miscarriage of justice? Is it time to do away with the idea of criminal insanity?
Reality Show Goes Too Far!!!
29-year-old Model and Law Graduate Reeva Steenkamp was brutally gunned down in the home of Olympian Oscar Pistorius on Thursday morning in Pretoria, South Africa. Steenkamp had just completed filming the Reality Show 'Tropika Island of Treasure,' which aired this past Saturday. Many believe the shows producer Samantha Moon for SABC should have been more sensitive by cancelling the show. What do you think?

A Valentine's Day with My Phenomenal Woman
There are many reasons I am in love with this woman: The power in her spririt, grace in her essence, joy in her heart, stamina in her independence, and the responsibility in her ethic! I am awe-stricken knowing that this woman chose to spend the rest of her life with me! I am undeserving!!! I dedicate this beautiful poem to you my love:
Phenomenal Woman
Pretty women wonder where my secret lies.
I'm not cute or built to suit a fashion model's size
But when I start to tell them,
They think I'm telling lies.
I say,
It's in the reach of my arms
The span of my hips,
The stride of my step,
The curl of my lips.
I'm a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.
I walk into a room
Just as cool as you please,
And to a man,
The fellows stand or
Fall down on their knees.
Then they swarm around me,
A hive of honey bees.
I say,
It's the fire in my eyes,
And the flash of my teeth,
The swing in my waist,
And the joy in my feet.
I'm a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.
Men themselves have wondered
What they see in me.
They try so much
But they can't touch
My inner mystery.
When I try to show them
They say they still can't see.
I say,
It's in the arch of my back,
The sun of my smile,
The ride of my breasts,
The grace of my style.
I'm a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.
Now you understand
Just why my head's not bowed.
I don't shout or jump about
Or have to talk real loud.
When you see me passing
It ought to make you proud.
I say,
It's in the click of my heels,
The bend of my hair,
the palm of my hand,
The need of my care,
'Cause I'm a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.

Pope Benedict XVI Resigns from the Papacy! Why?
Ok so...(1) 'Mea Maxima Culpa - A documentary by Alex Gibney, which details the intimate role Cardinal Ratzinger played in the child-sex-abuse-scandal that hit the Catholic Church - debutes on HBO last week; and (2) Pope Benedict XVI announces his resignation from the Papacy!!!
In my heart I don't believe this is coincidental, but nonetheless I will be in prayer for Pope Benedict XVI!!!

Assault on Dignified Black Women
Assault on Dignified Black Women
Of the new film on Lifetime ‘Betty and Coretta,’ TheRootDC columnist Barbara Reynolds asks the question: Why didn’t Lifetime executives consult with the children of King and Shabazz to ensure the film would be historically accurate, especially since the siblings were part of the drama?
In my view I believe that this is yet another attempt at “Entertainment Racism.” Similar to the Steven Spielberg hacking of the beautifully told Alice Walker story ‘The Color Purple’ or the botched Ntozake Shange rendition of ‘For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow is Enuf’ by Tyler Perry, Lifetime producers (using the Ruby Dee connection to the powerful Betty Shabazz) bypassed the King/Shabazz siblings in order to popularize these two powerful black women to a female-based ‘youth audience’ disinterested with historical accuracy.
Lifetime is marketing to a ‘Girlfriends’ culture more acclimated to the age-old Cindy Lauper “Girls Just Want to have fun” mantra.” The choice to use Hip-Hop Diva Mary J. Blige as Betty Shabazz was not only egregious, but blasphemous to the legacy of the dignity and honor that the matriarch Shabazz represented.
Today’s female American culture is inundated with Bad Girls Club, Desperate Housewives, The Real Atlanta Housewives, Mob Wives, Military Wives, Basketball Wives, Wife Swap and many other disgruntled wives that many are numb to family values. Along with a core of Neo-Hippie songs that glorify alcoholism, free sex, and abortion American women are fast becoming proponents of a new-Woodstock movement geared towards feeding their appetites to party.
Coretta Scott King and Betty Shabazz are women in a long tradition of dignified black women who found honor in living for their God, husbands, families, and communities; the type of women that helped to produce a First Lady Michelle Obama. Lifetime has just fired their own shot in the assault on Dignified Black Women!
